IP calculator: IPv4 and IPv6 subnets, netmask, CIDR
IPv4 and IPv6 subnet calculator: network address, broadcast, netmask, host range, subnet splitting and CIDR aggregation. Runs in your browser.
How does the subnet calculator work?
Enter an address with a prefix (e.g. 192.168.1.10/24) or a mask, and the calculator works out the network address, broadcast, usable host range, wildcard mask and binary form. It supports IPv4 and IPv6.
You can also split a network into smaller subnets and merge a list of addresses, networks and ranges into the smallest set of CIDR blocks. All calculations happen in your browser.
How many hosts fit in a /24 network?
A /24 network has 256 addresses, of which 254 can be assigned to hosts (the first is the network address and the last is the broadcast).
What is CIDR notation?
It is an address written with a prefix length, e.g. /24, which tells how many leading bits of the address identify the network. A /24 prefix equals the mask 255.255.255.0.
What is a wildcard mask?
A wildcard mask is a mask with inverted bits, e.g. 0.0.0.255 for /24. It is used, among other things, in ACLs on network devices.
What is a typical network size in IPv6?
A single local network is normally a /64, and an end user is usually assigned a /56 or /48 by the provider.
